Sunbeam Children's Home
and Refuge Centre
Sunbeam Children’s home was established in 2009 and cares for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children from the Teso district and beyond. The children are nurtured physically, mentally and spiritually in a loving, Christian environment. There are no other organisations providing accommodation for orphans or vulnerable children in the Teso district.

The children

The children of Sunbeam know that they are loved and cared for by Ellen, the staff and most of all, by God. The peace and joy that this brings to them is beyond our understanding. However, many of the children have very traumatic background stories and need much help, counselling and support in processing these.
In addition to the Sunbeam children, KSM has an established home support programme for around 40 more children. This programme supports families financially to enable the children to live at home but still be well fed and obtain an education. KSM pays school fees, uniform and book costs and also provides food parcels to families of the home support children.
KSM employs 44 members of staff including a full time social worker, teachers, carers, cleaners, security, farm workers and general workers.
Please pray
Ellen made a promise to God that she would never turn away a child that God brought to her gate. However, Sunbeam Children’s Home is now full to capacity and beyond. The home was originally built to accommodate 30 children but is now full-time home to 60 primary school children. Another 28 children board at secondary school or special schools but return to the home during holidays.
In addition, 19 children who have grown up in Sunbeam are now in further education at college, university or vocational schools.
Please pray for wisdom and guidance regarding the care of these beautiful children, the next steps for the older young people once they complete their education and the future development of Sunbeam Children's home.
